Sustainable Coastlines Cleans Up with $32k Donation

Dec 19, 2017

The RE:MOBILE scheme receives donations of unwanted mobile phones, which are refurbished or recycled by recycling partner Swapkit. Proceeds from the sale of these phones are donated to Sustainable Coastlines to run coastal clean-up events, educational programs and planting projects.

This quarter, the TCF has donated $10,107 to Sustainable Coastlines, presented to Sam Judd, Co-founder and CEO of Sustainable Coastlines by Geoff Thorn, CEO of the TCF at a recent event. This is the third donation the TCF has made since Sustainable Coastlines became the charity partner of RE:MOBILE in April, making a total of $ 32,642.27 donated in 2016.

Geoff said “The relationship with Sustainable Coastlines works really well. By demonstrating that handing handsets back provides a tangible benefit to our environment through the work Sustainable Coastlines does, we keep handsets out of landfills.”

The health of our waterways is invaluable to communities around Aotearoa. Our freshwater ecosystems are intrinsically connected to our health, our free time, our culture and our economy. The RE:MOBILE scheme provides crucial funding for our restoration efforts and is a fantastic collaborative approach from the telecommunications industry to addressing this significant environmental challenge”, said Sam.
