The Premises Wiring Code review project scope was approved by the TCF Board in June.
The Code sets out principles and practices for planning, installing and maintaining a premises wiring system so as to provide an open, flexible platform for the communication and entertainment needs of the modern “intelligent home.It aims to define recommendations which will provide good long-term performance and reliability for the New Zealand consumer to enable them to connect to a wide range of Telecommunication services, including UFB.
The Working Party will be reviewing the purpose, intended audience and compliance arrangements for the code as part of this review.
In addition, recommendations made to the Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister, Hon Amy Adams, in a December 2012 report will be carried through into this iteration of the Code. These changes relate to cost-effective options for retrofitting existing residential premises’ telecommunication wiring to connect to the fibre network.
